Smethwick 1920s Property – Asbestos Removal Case Study

Safeline Environmental recently undertook a Smethwick Asbestos Removal Project,  this project was a domestic job, for a homeowner who was remodelling their home.

The property was a 1920's built home, which had had many updates over the years, most of them it seems from before the installation of asbestos was legislated against in 2000.

The homeowner needed to take the building back to brick, and the many layers of decoration and the concerns about paint and ceiling coverings. Safeline was called in by the homeowner on the recommendation of the contractor hired to complete the remodelling of the home.

It is important to note that the homeowner and the contractor have responsibilities to protect the public, the workers and the environment from asbestos exposure and so it was the correct decision to get in a specialist contractor like Safeline environmental to inspect the property for asbestos.

During the Smethwick Asbestos removal Project survey, it was discovered that at some point during the lifetime of the property the ceilings in the home had been replaced and an Artex covering had been applied as the finish for the installation.

Firstly it had to be removed to put the decor back to a more period-correct style, but most importantly it needed to be made safe for the environment and any future homeowner.

The house was full of asbestos products, with an asbestos ACM heating flue that had been added sometime in the 1970s and various weatherboards made of asbestos.

Once identified, Safeline used our specialist skills to remove the asbestos material from the Smethwick Asbestos removal Project thus enabling the homeowner and their contractor to complete the home remodel into a beautiful period-correct home.
